Gas Safety Awareness in Housing

Learn the fundamentals of gas safety. Find out more about the properties of gas, its potential hazards, and the steps which should be taken to ensure residents, colleagues and communities are kept safe.

Demonstrate your commitment to gas safety with this Bitesize course. Gas Safety Awareness in Housing helps learners to understand both the vital role natural gas plays within the UK, and the risks it can pose if not used appropriately.

This course will introduce the learner to key gas safety legislation relevant to UK landlords. It will also make them aware of signs of potential dangerous combustion faults, enable them to recognise the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and give them the confidence to act swiftly and correctly if they do come across such issues.

The course is ideal for staff members who visit properties or interact with tenants and those who need to understand organisational and tenant responsibilities regarding gas safety. It would be particularly useful as an induction tool for new starters to give a foundational level understanding of gas safety and legislation.

Did you know?

In England and Wales, approximately 40 deaths are reported each year due to carbon monoxide poisoning. There are also approximately 440 hospital admissions per year in England due to carbon monoxide poisoning.  Poisoning is more prevalent in the winter months, likely related to the increased indoor use of heating and other devices which are common sources of carbon monoxide.
