    Learners examine the common sources of lead in and around homes, including older paint, plumbing, contaminated dust and soil. The module also explains the main exposure pathways and the short-term and long-term health effects associated with lead.

    This module helps learners identify property features and conditions that may indicate a potential lead hazard. It covers warning signs such as damaged or flaking paint, renovation dust, older pipework and land-use history, while explaining when specialist testing or further investigation may be required.

    Learners are introduced to practical precautions that can reduce the risk of exposure when lead is suspected. The module covers avoiding unnecessary disturbance, controlling dust, restricting access to affected areas and recognising when work should stop until competent advice or specialist support is available.

    This module explains how to record, report and escalate suspected lead hazards through the appropriate organisational procedures. Learners will consider the information that should be gathered, the importance of protecting occupants and when concerns may require urgent action, testing or referral.

    Learners receive an awareness-level overview of the housing standards and legal responsibilities relevant to lead hazards across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The module introduces HHSRS and other regional housing standards, helping learners understand how duties and enforcement routes differ across the UK.

  • Assessment

    To pass this course learners will need to demonstrate their knowledge with a short 10 question assessment.
